The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced English Teacher to lead the department and inspire students across KS3, GCSE, and A Level. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of English education and take on a leadership position within a dynamic and successful department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching across KS3, GCSE, and A Level English.
  • Lead and manage the English department, supporting colleagues and driving academic success.
  • Develop and implement a stimulating co-curricular programme, including debate, public speaking, and creative writing.
  • Foster a love of reading and literature among students through innovative teaching and enrichment activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-curricular learning and student engagement.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and contribute to the development of the school’s academic and pastoral strategies.
  • Support students in their personal and academic development, ensuring they reach their full potential.
  • Maintain high standards of teaching and learning, with a focus on continuous professional development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in English education at KS3, GCSE, and A Level.
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally as a Second in Department or with aspirations to lead a department.
  • Strong commitment to fostering a love of English literature and language.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students through dynamic and thoughtful teaching.

Preferred

  • Experience with AQA GCSE and A Level specifications.
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities such as debate, public speaking, or creative writing.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to departmental development and staff training.
  • Familiarity with the GDST and its values and ethos.
