The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Music Instructor to join our Creative Arts Department on a one-year fixed-term contract. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with autism and complex needs, while supporting your own professional growth in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and innovative music lessons tailored to the needs of students with autism and complex needs.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Plan and implement creative, interactive teaching methods that stimulate curiosity and promote student engagement.
  • Support students in developing communication and interaction skills through music and the arts.
  • Work closely with parents, governors, and the wider community to enhance student learning and wellbeing.
  • Participate in whole-school events and contribute to the school’s creative and inspiring curriculum.
  • Attend training and development opportunities to enhance professional practice and career progression.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in music education, particularly with students with autism and complex needs.
  • Knowledge of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Commitment to student wellbeing and the delivery of a holistic, rights-respecting education.

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and delivering bespoke learning pathways for students with autism.
  • Familiarity with the National Autistic Society standards and best practices.
  • Experience with creative arts and music-based interventions.
  • Knowledge of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and its application in educational settings.
