The Opportunity:

As a Musician in Residence, you will play a key role in shaping the musical and boarding experience at a school. This is an opportunity to inspire students, lead extracurricular activities, and contribute to a vibrant music department while supporting the boarding community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of music within the school using your particular talents as an instrumentalist, singer, composer, or arranger.
  • Supervise and encourage practice in the Music School during evenings and ensure the building's security.
  • Act as a classroom instructor and assistant in Key Stage 3 and 4 lessons as required.
  • Assist with teaching, concerts, and liaison activities with other schools.
  • Help with administration, planning, and running of musical activities and events.
  • Support students considering higher education or careers in music.
  • Provide supervision and pastoral care as a Residential Boarding Tutor.
  • Assist with house duties, assemblies, and weekend activities as part of a rota.
  • Run co-curriculum clubs and support the boarding house during open events.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a range of age groups and support student learning.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Conscientious, reliable, and enthusiastic.
  • Experience coaching music or activities to children.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and protecting children and young people.
  • Flexibility to work unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred

  • Experience in music education at all levels.
  • Background in performance, composition, or arrangement.
  • Experience in boarding or residential environments.
  • Leadership or conducting experience.
  • Familiarity with school administration and event planning.
