The Opportunity:

As a Nurture Teacher, you will deliver high-quality education tailored to students with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs, typically associated with autism. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning for students with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to support student development.
  • Set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets to optimise individual progress.
  • Maintain and use short, medium, and long-term plans to deliver the curriculum effectively.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on student progress to parents, team members, and senior staff.
  • Develop and reflect on lesson plans to ensure continuous improvement in teaching practice.
  • Contribute to the review of Statements and EHC plans, PEPs, and LAC reviews.
  • Provide structured lessons that maintain pace, motivation, and challenge for students.
  • Stay informed on current issues in autism education to enhance teaching and learning strategies.
  • Manage challenging behaviours in line with school policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience in special school settings, particularly with pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • Proven ability to deliver a differentiated curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
  • Strong knowledge of the national curriculum
  • Working understanding of ASC and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including complex presentations

Preferred

  • Additional qualifications in SEND
  • Experience in curriculum development for learners with SEND, especially those with autism
  • Understanding of co-occurring conditions associated with autism and their impact on learning
