The Opportunity:
As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ emotional and social development. You will work closely with the Head of Year and Assistant Principal to ensure the well-being and safety of students, with a strong focus on safeguarding and child protection. This is a key role in helping students thrive academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Year and Assistant Principal in the effective leadership and management of the year group.
- Safeguard students by taking responsibility for child protection within the year group and across the school.
- Engage positively with students, families, and staff to promote a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Provide guidance and support to students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Collaborate with other professionals to develop and implement strategies that support student well-being.
- Monitor and report on student progress and behavior, ensuring timely interventions when needed.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance pastoral care practices.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student support and safeguarding.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- 5+ GCSEs at C/4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
- Knowledge of child development, safeguarding, and child protection policies and procedures.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Experience working with young people, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Preferred
- Experience in a pastoral or support role within an educational setting.
- Familiarity with therapeutic approaches and support strategies for vulnerable young people.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
