Pupil Welfare Officer and Deputy Safeguarding Lead role with a focus on safeguarding and pupil support.

The Opportunity:

As a Pupil Welfare Officer and Deputy Safeguarding Lead, you will play a key role in safeguarding students and promoting their wellbeing. This is an impactful position for someone passionate about supporting young people and ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support safeguarding processes and monitor pupil welfare and attendance
  • Work with families and external agencies to address concerns and remove barriers to learning
  • Manage referrals to Children’s Social Care, Early Help, CAMHS, and other relevant agencies
  • Lead on strategy, core group, and family support meetings for safeguarding cases
  • Maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding records in line with GDPR and school policy
  • Liaise effectively with parents and carers to support students
  • Oversee triage of safeguarding referrals and direct them to appropriate staff
  • Ensure safeguarding records are securely stored and transferred when pupils move schools
  • Provide pastoral support to students experiencing safeguarding concerns
  • Act as a safeguarding point of contact for staff and support the DSL with training and policy implementation
  • Ensure safeguarding practice aligns with current legislation and statutory guidance
  • Contribute to safeguarding audits and Ofsted inspections
  • Deputise for the DSL when required, leading on safeguarding matters and early interventions

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in safeguarding, pastoral care, education, or youth support
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Commitment to child welfare and safety

Preferred

  • Experience as a designated safeguarding lead or deputy
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data protection regulations
  • Experience with CPOMS and other safeguarding systems
  • Experience in working with vulnerable children and families
  • Experience in delivering safeguarding training
