The Opportunity:

As a School Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting students' emotional and psychological well-being. You will work closely with students, parents, and the safeguarding team to ensure a safe and nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Deputy Head Pastoral and safeguarding team to make referrals to appropriate external agencies.
  • Create a safe psychological environment that encourages help-seeking behaviour among students.
  • Develop and assess the effectiveness of psychological and social counselling programmes.
  • Provide counselling services to students of all ages, including those with disabilities and learning difficulties.
  • Prepare evaluation tools for psychological counselling processes.
  • Ensure the effective application of the school’s attendance and behaviour policies.
  • Monitor and analyse student behavioural issues and recommend policy improvements.
  • Coordinate with community organisations to exchange expertise in counselling.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in pupil counselling and share resources accordingly.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or Psychiatry.
  • Ability to support students with challenges such as absenteeism, academic delays, behavioural issues, health concerns, and social difficulties.
  • Strong counselling and interpersonal skills, including active listening, cultural awareness, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent report writing, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Experience in applying school policies and managing diverse pupil behaviour.

Preferred

  • Experience with teaching English as a Second Language.
  • Experience in working with students with special educational needs.
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience in mental health and well-being programme development.
