The Opportunity:

As a Second in English, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of Department to elevate the quality of teaching and learning in the English curriculum. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Department in developing and implementing strategies to improve student attainment and engagement in English.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, identifying areas for improvement and coordinating targeted interventions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the faculty to ensure consistency in teaching standards and assessment practices.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of whole-school initiatives focused on raising educational standards.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture that supports both student and staff development.
  • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff within the English department to enhance pedagogical practices.
  • Ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to further your own expertise and leadership skills.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in English education.
  • Proven ability to support departmental leadership and improve student outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or mentoring role within a school setting.
