The Opportunity:

As a Secondary Head of Maths, you will lead and inspire a dynamic Maths department, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, engaging curriculum that drives student achievement. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of Maths education and make a real impact on student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Maths department, ensuring consistent and outstanding teaching and learning.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of the Maths curriculum, ensuring it is rigorous, challenging, and aligned with school priorities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, using data to inform teaching strategies and support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to contribute to whole-school improvement and strategy.
  • Support and mentor Maths teachers, fostering a culture of professional development and excellence.
  • Ensure the department adheres to all school policies, safeguarding, and compliance standards.
  • Work with external stakeholders, including parents and local education authorities, to promote the school and department.
  • Play a key role in the recruitment, training, and retention of Maths staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant experience in secondary education.
  • Proven leadership experience in a Maths department or similar role.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics, with the ability to teach across the secondary phase.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department through periods of change or improvement.
  • Experience with data analysis and using insights to improve student outcomes.
  • Experience in working within a school or academy trust.
  • Knowledge of inclusion and differentiation strategies.
  • Experience with Ofsted inspections or school improvement processes.
