The Opportunity:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students with special educational needs and disabilities in key stage 2, 3, and 4. You will work closely with class teachers to enhance learning outcomes, promote independence, and create an inclusive environment where every student can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support class teachers in raising the learning and attainment of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Promote pupils’ independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion through tailored support and encouragement.
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and resourcing of lessons to ensure effective learning experiences.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment.
  • Provide one-on-one or group support to help pupils access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Supervise classes when necessary and support teaching and learning during temporary absences of the teacher.
  • Use ICT skills to enhance pupil engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, pupils, parents, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning experience.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage behaviour in line with school policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of teaching and learning strategies.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or supporting learning in a school setting.
  • Familiarity with education platforms such as AQA and ASDAN.
  • Experience in planning and delivering individualised learning activities.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures in educational settings.
