The Opportunity:
As a Senior Science Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting Science Teachers and students by ensuring the smooth operation of Science laboratories and equipment. This role is essential in maintaining a safe and well-resourced learning environment that supports high-quality science education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a team of technicians across 7 science laboratories.
- Act as the first point of contact for teachers regarding resource needs and attend departmental meetings when required.
- Ensure that all day-to-day resource needs are met efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain a safe and organized working environment in preparation and laboratory areas.
- Provide advice to the Head of Department on health and safety concerns and resource planning.
- Develop and maintain an accurate stock records system.
- Collaborate with the Head of Department to plan and deliver training for technical staff.
- Construct, repair, and maintain science equipment and materials.
- Liaise with external contractors for maintenance and repair work.
- Prepare and organize equipment and materials for lessons and demonstrations.
- Check and maintain the condition of all equipment and materials before and after use.
- Ensure proper disposal of chemical and biological waste in accordance with safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and manage stock taking procedures.
- Ensure the safe and orderly storage of all laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Clean and maintain glassware and other laboratory equipment to the highest standards.
- Undertake other duties as requested by the Head of Science.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a senior technical role within an educational setting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to health and safety standards in a laboratory environment.
- Experience in managing and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.
Preferred
- Experience in leading and mentoring junior technicians.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and procedures.
- Experience with inventory management systems.
- Familiarity with chemical and biological waste disposal protocols.
- Experience working in a Catholic school or similar educational environment.
