The Opportunity:

As a Senior Science Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting Science Teachers and students by ensuring the smooth operation of Science laboratories and equipment. This role is essential in maintaining a safe and well-resourced learning environment that supports high-quality science education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of technicians across 7 science laboratories.
  • Act as the first point of contact for teachers regarding resource needs and attend departmental meetings when required.
  • Ensure that all day-to-day resource needs are met efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain a safe and organized working environment in preparation and laboratory areas.
  • Provide advice to the Head of Department on health and safety concerns and resource planning.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate stock records system.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Department to plan and deliver training for technical staff.
  • Construct, repair, and maintain science equipment and materials.
  • Liaise with external contractors for maintenance and repair work.
  • Prepare and organize equipment and materials for lessons and demonstrations.
  • Check and maintain the condition of all equipment and materials before and after use.
  • Ensure proper disposal of chemical and biological waste in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and manage stock taking procedures.
  • Ensure the safe and orderly storage of all laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Clean and maintain glassware and other laboratory equipment to the highest standards.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the Head of Science.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior technical role within an educational setting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience in managing and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and procedures.
  • Experience with inventory management systems.
  • Familiarity with chemical and biological waste disposal protocols.
  • Experience working in a Catholic school or similar educational environment.
