The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join a school that offers a unique, hands-on learning experience in a therapeutic outdoor setting. This role supports students with diverse needs across both primary and secondary phases, combining academic support with outdoor education and emotional guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with a range of needs (ASC, SEMH, MLD) in both classroom and outdoor settings.
  • Provide 1:1 or small group assistance to help students access the curriculum through tailored interventions.
  • Assist in outdoor learning activities on the school’s farm and smallholding, including animal care and seasonal tasks.
  • Act as a calm and consistent presence for students who may find traditional school environments challenging.
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of both primary and secondary students.
  • Engage in experiential learning and outdoor education, promoting holistic student development.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to support curriculum delivery and student progress.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching and support strategies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), including ASC, SEMH, and MLD.
  • Ability to work flexibly across primary and secondary phases.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive and student-centered learning.
  • Willingness to engage in outdoor and hands-on learning activities.

Preferred

  • Experience in outdoor education or Forest School settings.
  • Level 1 or 2 Forest School qualification.
  • Interest in experiential learning and environmental education.
  • Previous experience in a therapeutic or alternative education setting.
