The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Visiting Music Teacher to join our dynamic music department and help establish a world-class singing programme at a new and exciting school. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a comprehensive and innovative music curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach the highest quality individual music lessons to pupils.
  • Promote musical excellence and enjoyment of music by demonstrating vocal skills to pupils.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of all pupils in line with the school’s safeguarding policy.
  • Prepare and teach lessons tailored to each student’s needs to ensure progress.
  • Keep detailed records of pupil progress and achievements.
  • Set and communicate specific weekly practice targets for students.
  • Ensure pupils are well prepared for music exams with ABRSM, Rockschool, or Trinity.
  • Communicate pupil progress and concerns with the Head of Music and parents when necessary.
  • Direct ensembles and music activities as requested by the Head of Music.
  • Support music events and initiatives to maintain consistency across the music department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Recognised music qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • High-level performance ability and demonstrated expertise in singing or voice.
  • Proven experience teaching individual students and/or directing ensembles across a range of ages and abilities.
  • Strong understanding of music pedagogy, including differentiation and inclusive practice.
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills, including lesson planning, scheduling, and record keeping.
  • Confidence using technology to support music learning and performance.

Preferred

  • Experience with music exam boards such as ABRSM, Rockschool, or Trinity.
  • Experience in a high-performing school or educational institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic and busy department.
