The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a passionate and dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to support a Year 8 student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a student, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential skills in a supportive and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide individualised in-class support to a student with ASD.
Assist the student in accessing lessons and completing learning activities.
Support the development of social, emotional, and communication skills.
Implement strategies outlined in the student’s EHCP and support plans.
Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and pastoral staff to monitor progress.
Help manage transitions between lessons and support the student during less structured times.
Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
Adapt support strategies to meet the student’s changing needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

Experience working in a secondary school environment.
SEN qualification or relevant training, such as a Teaching Assistant qualification or autism training.
Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other additional needs.
Understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive classroom practices.

Preferred

Experience working with students with EHCPs.
Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and structured support approaches.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
