The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a passionate and dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to support a Year 8 student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a student, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential skills in a supportive and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised in-class support to a student with ASD.
  • Assist the student in accessing lessons and completing learning activities.
  • Support the development of social, emotional, and communication skills.
  • Implement strategies outlined in the student’s EHCP and support plans.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and pastoral staff to monitor progress.
  • Help manage transitions between lessons and support the student during less structured times.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
  • Adapt support strategies to meet the student’s changing needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working in a secondary school environment.
  • SEN qualification or relevant training, such as a Teaching Assistant qualification or autism training.
  • Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other additional needs.
  • Understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive classroom practices.

Preferred

  • Experience working with students with EHCPs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and structured support approaches.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
