The Opportunity:
As an Academic Music Teacher, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality music education to students across all age groups. You will be responsible for teaching music theory, analysis, composition, and musicianship, and will contribute to both academic and performance-based programmes. Key Responsibilities:
- Teach music history, analysis, harmony, composition, and musicianship to students of all ages.
- Assess student work regularly and provide clear, constructive feedback in line with departmental policies.
- Supervise the completion of coursework and support students in preparing for exams.
- Contribute to the marking and moderation of coursework for GCSE, A Level, and vocational programmes.
- Attend weekly departmental meetings and stay up to date with developments in musicology and education.
- Develop and deliver new courses and projects aligned with your musical specialisms and interests.
- Support students in preparing for entrance exams and interviews for conservatoires and universities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in academic music and musicianship.
- Strong subject knowledge in music theory, history, and composition.
- Experience teaching students across a range of ages and abilities.
- Ability to deliver high-quality lessons that inspire and engage students.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred
- Experience with GCSE, A Level, or vocational music programmes.
- Familiarity with music technology and its integration into teaching.
- Experience in performance or composition, with the ability to contribute to performance classes.
- Knowledge of advanced music theory (grades 6-8) and keyboard skills.
- Experience in leading or contributing to extra-curricular music activities.
