As an Academic Support Teacher, you will play a vital role in helping students with special educational needs achieve their full potential. You will work closely with pupils, providing individualised support and guidance across a range of academic subjects. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with a wide range of mild special educational needs, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD, and ADHD.
  • Deliver customised teaching programmes that focus on literacy, study skills, organisational support, and more.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
  • Conduct assessments and provide expert advice to support students' academic progress.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to help students achieve their academic goals.
  • Incorporate counselling and emotional support where appropriate to support student wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with parents and teaching staff.
  • Stay up to date with best practices in special educational needs and inclusive teaching.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special educational needs support.
  • Strong understanding of a range of mild special educational needs, including dyslexia and ASD.
  • Proven ability to deliver individualised support and tailored teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a school environment and with students of varying abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience in literacy development and study skills support.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and touch-typing support.
  • Experience with assessment and reporting for students with special educational needs.
  • Background in pastoral care or student wellbeing support.
