The Opportunity:
The Head of Senior School Music is a pivotal role that shapes the musical experience for students from KS3 to KS5. This leader will oversee a dynamic co-curriculum, lead a team of music staff, and contribute to the school's vision of inspiring and engaging students in both academic and creative pursuits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a rigorous and challenging music curriculum that supports academic attainment and student wellbeing.
- Manage and oversee instrumental tuition, orchestras, ensembles, and other musical groups.
- Organise and coordinate school events with a strong musical component.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure high-quality teaching and learning in music.
- Support the professional development of music staff and ensure a cohesive, high-performing team.
- Promote a culture of musical excellence and encourage student participation in performing arts.
- Monitor and report on student progress and attainment in music across all key stages.
- Work closely with other departments to integrate music into the broader educational experience.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a senior educational role, preferably in music.
- Strong track record in delivering high-quality music education.
- Experience in managing and developing a team of music staff.
- Excellent organisational and event management skills.
- Deep understanding of the UK music curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Commitment to student wellbeing and holistic development.
Preferred
- Experience in a co-educational, independent school setting.
- Knowledge of performing arts and extra-curricular music provision.
- Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with the use of technology in music education.
