The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Director of Science, you will play a pivotal role in driving academic success and fostering a culture of wellbeing and ambition. You will support the Director of Science in leading a dynamic department that prioritizes innovation, equity, and student empowerment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the strategic management of the Science department, ensuring curriculum innovation and pedagogical excellence.
  • Design inclusive learning pathways that support diverse student needs and promote access to Triple Science and A-Levels.
  • Mentor and coach Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and empathy.
  • Monitor student progress data and implement targeted interventions to support academic attainment and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver high-quality science education aligned with the school’s values and goals.
  • Promote and model the school’s core values of Wellbeing, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Leadership, and Empathy.
  • Support the development of staff through professional learning and leadership opportunities.
  • Ensure that all science teaching and learning practices reflect the school’s commitment to academic excellence and student wellbeing.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience in raising attainment at KS3, KS4, or KS5
  • Demonstrated commitment to student and staff wellbeing
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to design and implement inclusive and innovative science curricula

Preferred

  • Experience in mentoring or coaching teachers
  • Background in leading a science department or similar role
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment strategies
  • Familiarity with NPQSL/NPQH pathways or similar professional development programs
