The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Head – Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to join our team during a period of significant growth. This role offers the opportunity to take strategic ownership of safeguarding practices and ensure the highest standards of student protection across all year groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the governance, promotion, and implementation of safeguarding measures and policies.
  • Conduct proprietor’s annual safeguarding review and report findings to management.
  • Refer suspected abuse cases to local authority children’s social care as required.
  • Support staff in making referrals and provide guidance on safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and secure written records of all safeguarding-related matters.
  • Ensure that safeguarding policies are reviewed and updated annually, and are accessible to parents.
  • Liaise with designated authorities and safeguarding partners to stay informed on local policies and training.
  • Deliver safeguarding training to staff, including pastoral support and wellbeing teams.
  • Collaborate with Heads and DDSLs to address safeguarding concerns and ongoing investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with Cognita Asia’s safeguarding policy and keep staff updated on KCSIE requirements.
  • Transfer safeguarding files securely to new schools when students leave.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with PGCE or equivalent.
  • Recognised certificate in Designated Safeguarding.
  • Experience as a DSL in a British Curriculum school.
  • Strong understanding of child protection case conferences and review processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • International school experience.
  • Experience in a diverse educational environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Cognita’s safeguarding standards.
