The Opportunity:

The Assistant Head of Year plays a vital role in supporting student attendance, achievement, and wellbeing. This position requires strong leadership, a focus on behaviour management, and collaboration with pastoral and wellbeing teams. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Year in managing student behaviour and promoting positive classroom environments.
  • Work closely with the behaviour, pastoral, SEND and wellbeing teams to ensure a consistent approach to student support.
  • De-escalate and RESET behaviour in a way that promotes student growth and respect.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student attendance and academic outcomes.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, fostering a sense of belonging and aspiration.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure a cohesive and inclusive school culture.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing regularly.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance leadership and pastoral skills.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a leadership or pastoral role within an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and student wellbeing strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to social mobility and inclusive education.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take initiative when needed.

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar role within a school with high levels of deprivation or special educational needs.
  • Familiarity with evidence-informed teaching practices and curriculum development.
  • Experience with safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Background in professional development and training delivery.
