The Opportunity:

As the Head of Computer Science, you will lead and develop the Computer Science department, overseeing the delivery of KS3, GCSE, and A Level courses. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of computing education and inspire the next generation of technologists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Computer Science department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning at all levels.
  • Develop and implement a whole-school computing curriculum that prepares students for future technological challenges.
  • Oversee the performance of the department, including monitoring and improving examination results and student outcomes.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues, including mentoring and professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate co-curricular activities that enhance students’ engagement with computer science and digital technologies.
  • Ensure the efficient running of the department, including managing budgets, resources, and departmental policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in computing and technology, and integrate these into teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to support cross-curricular initiatives and student progression.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Computer Science, including experience teaching KS3, GCSE, and A Level.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a teaching team.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departmental self-review and development planning.
  • Familiarity with Edexcel and OCR Computer Science qualifications.
  • Experience in delivering co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in computing.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in computer science.
