The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Head of Year, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head of Year to ensure students attend, achieve and thrive. This part-time role offers the chance to be a visible leader and a trusted adult, working closely with key teams to foster positive behaviour and student wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Year in managing student attendance, behaviour and academic progress.
  • Work collaboratively with the behaviour, pastoral, SEND and wellbeing teams to ensure a consistent and positive school culture.
  • Deescalate and RESET challenging behaviour in line with the school's values and policies.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students, promoting a sense of belonging and aspiration.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of inclusive teaching strategies and pastoral care initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, ensuring timely interventions where needed.
  • Support the school’s commitment to social mobility and student achievement.
  • Participate in professional development and training to enhance leadership and pastoral care skills.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral or leadership role within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deescalate and manage challenging situations.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and social mobility.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Experience in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar role within a school or academy setting.
  • Knowledge of evidence-informed teaching and pastoral strategies.
  • Experience with behaviour management and RESET strategies.
  • Background in professional development and training delivery.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational partnership.
