The Opportunity:

As Assistant Head Pastoral, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the school’s pastoral care, safeguarding, and wellbeing strategies. This is a leadership position for someone passionate about supporting student development and fostering a safe, inclusive environment. You will also lead PSHEE from Reception to Year 8, ensuring pupils are equipped with the skills to thrive in life beyond school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the school’s pastoral provision, behaviour, and safeguarding culture.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring compliance with all legal and policy requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School and senior leadership team to develop and maintain a cohesive and supportive school environment.
  • Deliver and lead a high-quality PSHEE curriculum for students from Reception to Year 8.
  • Support and guide staff in delivering effective pastoral care and behaviour management.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pastoral provision and safeguarding practices.
  • Provide regular reports to senior leadership on student wellbeing and safeguarding matters.
  • Work closely with external agencies and parents to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a pastoral or safeguarding role within an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience in managing and leading pastoral care teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership and staff across the school.
  • Commitment to the holistic development of students.

Preferred

  • Experience in delivering PSHEE or similar curricula.
  • Background in a co-educational independent school setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practices.
  • Experience in a leadership role within a school with a strong pastoral care ethos.
