The Opportunity:

As the Assistant Head Teacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), you will play a vital role in leading safeguarding and pastoral care across the school. This is a key leadership position that shapes the school's safeguarding culture and ensures the welfare of all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate safeguarding and child protection across the school, ensuring compliance with statutory guidance.
  • Embed a strong safeguarding culture through staff training, managing concerns, and liaising with external agencies.
  • Act as the Designated Teacher for Looked After and Previously Looked After Children, overseeing Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
  • Provide strategic leadership in pastoral care, behaviour, and attendance using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Monitor and analyse safeguarding and wellbeing data to drive improvement and report impact to senior leaders.
  • Lead the Personal Development curriculum, including PSHE, RSE, and Careers Education.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and whole-school improvement as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Model and promote the school’s ethos and values through visible, consistent leadership.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Significant experience in safeguarding and pastoral leadership
  • Experience acting as or working closely with a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Full Child Protection Training
  • Willingness to submit an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS)

Preferred

  • Experience supporting Looked After Children
  • Experience in curriculum development and leadership
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of statutory safeguarding guidance
