The Opportunity:

We are seeking an ambitious and dedicated Assistant Headteacher English to lead the strategic development of literacy across the school. This is an exciting opportunity to drive a research-informed literacy strategy and contribute to the launch of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic development of English and literacy across the school.
  • Work closely with curriculum leaders to embed high standards of disciplinary literacy.
  • Promote a culture of reading for pleasure and develop students’ communication skills.
  • Support the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
  • Drive a coherent, research-informed literacy strategy across the Trust.
  • Contribute to the development of a vibrant and intellectually ambitious curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance student outcomes in English and across the curriculum.
  • Manage and develop a team of English teachers and support staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading English and literacy strategy.
  • Strong classroom teaching experience and a track record of academic success.
  • Experience in curriculum design and delivery.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership and colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
  • Experience in leading whole-school initiatives.
  • Experience in developing enrichment opportunities such as debating, public speaking, and writing competitions.
  • Experience in promoting reading for pleasure and literacy development.
