The Opportunity:
As an English Subject Leader, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the English department. This is a leadership position that offers the chance to influence teaching and learning across the full age range, from Year 7 to Year 13, while supporting colleagues in delivering high-quality education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the English department, ensuring a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
- Deliver outstanding teaching and learning across all key stages, inspiring students to achieve their full potential.
- Support and mentor colleagues, fostering a collaborative and professional environment.
- Design and implement a curriculum that reflects the diversity of English literature and promotes a love of reading.
- Work closely with senior leaders to shape departmental strategies and ensure alignment with the school’s vision.
- Promote extracurricular opportunities that enrich students’ learning experiences in English.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support to ensure all students achieve high standards.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to the wider educational community.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in English at Key Stage 3, 4, and 5.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a departmental team.
- Strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching English.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.
Preferred
- Experience in departmental leadership or a desire to develop into a Subject Leader role.
- Familiarity with innovative teaching practices and curriculum design.
- Experience with professional development and training programmes.
