The Opportunity:

As an English Subject Leader, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the English department. This is a leadership position that offers the chance to influence teaching and learning across the full age range, from Year 7 to Year 13, while supporting colleagues in delivering high-quality education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the English department, ensuring a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver outstanding teaching and learning across all key stages, inspiring students to achieve their full potential.
  • Support and mentor colleagues, fostering a collaborative and professional environment.
  • Design and implement a curriculum that reflects the diversity of English literature and promotes a love of reading.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to shape departmental strategies and ensure alignment with the school’s vision.
  • Promote extracurricular opportunities that enrich students’ learning experiences in English.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support to ensure all students achieve high standards.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to the wider educational community.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in English at Key Stage 3, 4, and 5.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a departmental team.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching English.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.

Preferred

  • Experience in departmental leadership or a desire to develop into a Subject Leader role.
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching practices and curriculum design.
