The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the school, supporting the Headteacher in driving improvement and fostering a nurturing environment for students with complex needs. This is a leadership role that offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a tailored, innovative curriculum for students with SEMH and complex needs
  • Drive pupil progress through data-informed leadership and targeted interventions
  • Champion positive behaviour and wellbeing, ensuring a supportive and inclusive school culture
  • Inspire and develop staff through coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities
  • Provide visible leadership that reinforces school values and expectations
  • Build strong partnerships with families, external professionals, and the wider community
  • Support the Headteacher in strategic planning and school improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and inclusion policies across all areas of school operations

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Proven experience in middle or senior leadership within education
  • Strong track record of improving outcomes and raising standards
  • Experience as a classroom practitioner across multiple key stages
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
  • Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and student wellbeing

Preferred

  • Experience in managing and leading teams in an educational setting
  • Experience with students with SEMH and complex needs
  • Familiarity with therapeutic and pastoral support strategies
  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation
