The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Headteacher, you will play a vital role in shaping an inclusive future for every student. You will lead in the development of learning programs, support teaching and learning, and champion student voice and self-advocacy. This is a strategic role that influences the direction of inclusive practice across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and quality-assure learning programs and Support Plans.
  • Support the development of high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Champion student voice and self-advocacy, including for non-verbal and neurodivergent students.
  • Drive inclusive classroom practice and equitable staffing support.
  • Build strong, trusting partnerships with families through thoughtful liaison and support.
  • Use data to identify trends and deliver safeguarding training to staff.
  • Ensure that inclusive practice is embedded throughout the school.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a values-led, student-centred culture.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working within specialist educational settings.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Confidence in using data to inform decision-making.
  • Ability to deliver safeguarding training to staff.
  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, and student advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with students with ASC, PMLD, and complex learning needs.
  • Experience in curriculum adaptation and cultural responsiveness.
  • Background in student self-advocacy and support.
  • Experience in developing and leading inclusive learning programs.
