The Opportunity:

As a Grounds and Gardens Manager, you will be responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of a school's extensive grounds, including sports pitches, formal gardens, a golf course, and historic trees. This is a key role in ensuring the school's environment remains a beautiful and functional space for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all grounds maintenance and improvement projects across the school's 250 acres of parkland.
  • Lead and coordinate in-house grounds teams and external contractors to ensure the highest standards of maintenance and care.
  • Develop and implement planned and reactive maintenance schedules, including inspections and testing regimes.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Estates on capital and alteration projects that impact the grounds and tree collection.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and environmental best practices.
  • Maintain and enhance the school's historic tree collection and golf course.
  • Support the delivery of a vibrant co-curricular programme through well-maintained facilities.
  • Monitor and manage budgets and resources effectively to meet the school's grounds management needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in professional grounds management within a school or educational campus environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and contractors.
  • In-depth knowledge of grounds maintenance, arboriculture, or specialist sports such as golf.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with capital projects and estate management.
  • Familiarity with health and safety and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of modern grounds management techniques and technologies.
