Assistant Headteacher KS4 – Lead and drive high standards of teaching and learning at Key Stage 4.

The Opportunity:
As an Assistant Headteacher KS4, you will play a pivotal role in leading and driving high standards of teaching and learning across Key Stage 4. You will work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure strong GCSE outcomes, promote a culture of academic ambition, and support student progress and well-being throughout their examination years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and drive high standards of teaching and learning across Key Stage 4, ensuring consistency, challenge and progress for all learners.
- Oversee the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of the KS4 curriculum, ensuring alignment with examination board specifications.
- Monitor the quality of teaching through lesson visits, work scrutiny and data analysis to support continuous improvement.
- Use performance data to identify trends, gaps and priorities, and design targeted intervention strategies for underperforming groups.
- Lead professional development focused on high-quality teaching, exam preparation, and curriculum planning at KS4.
- Coach and mentor middle leaders and classroom practitioners to strengthen pedagogy and raise outcomes.
- Promote a culture of high expectations, academic ambition and personal responsibility across KS4.
- Establish and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to evaluate teaching, curriculum impact and student progress.
- Develop strong partnerships with parents and carers to support KS4 pathways and examination preparation.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience of successful teaching and leadership within a secondary setting, with a strong track record of raising attainment at KS4.
- In-depth understanding of GCSE curriculum frameworks, assessment practices and examination requirements.
- Experience of leading teaching and learning initiatives that have demonstrably improved outcomes.
- Strong instructional leadership with the ability to inspire, challenge and develop staff.
- Highly effective use of data to inform strategic planning and drive improvement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility.
Preferred
- Experience with evidence-informed practice and high-impact assessment strategies.
- Experience with professional development and coaching of middle leaders.
- Experience with student well-being and pastoral support strategies.
- Experience with digital learning technologies and innovative teaching methods.
