The Opportunity:
As an Assistant Principal SENCO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the school’s approach to inclusion and special educational needs. This leadership position offers a unique chance to influence policy, drive innovation, and ensure that every student reaches their full potential, regardless of background or circumstance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the school’s SENCO strategy, ensuring it aligns with the institution’s vision for inclusion and educational excellence.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, support staff, and external agencies to provide tailored support for students with special educational needs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and support strategies, making recommendations for improvement.
- Provide professional development and guidance to staff on inclusive teaching practices and SENCO-related matters.
- Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to integrate inclusion and SENCO priorities into the school’s overall strategy.
- Ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements related to special educational needs and inclusion.
- Support the development of individual education plans and ensure they are reviewed and updated regularly.
- Represent the school in meetings with parents, carers, and external stakeholders to discuss student progress and support needs.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a secondary school setting.
- Demonstrable experience in special educational needs and inclusion, including a track record of successful SENCO leadership.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, students, and parents.
- A clear vision for inclusion and a commitment to ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to succeed.
- The ability to manage and lead a team, with a focus on collaboration and shared goals.
Preferred
- Experience in a multi-academy trust or similar collaborative educational environment.
- Experience with curriculum development and inclusion-focused teaching strategies.
- Knowledge of current legislation and best practices in special educational needs and inclusion.
