Summary:

Attendance Officer needed to support improved student attendance and reduce persistent absence.

The Opportunity:

As an Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in improving student attendance through proactive engagement and effective administrative support. This position is essential in helping students achieve their full potential by ensuring consistent school attendance and addressing barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily 'Late Gate' patrols to monitor and support student attendance.
  • Maintain accurate records in the school’s attendance Management Information System.
  • Engage directly with students and parents to understand and address reasons for absence.
  • Prepare and present detailed attendance data for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • Process referrals for Fixed Penalty Notices and manage related administrative tasks.
  • Publicise attendance information through various communication channels.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement whole-school strategies aimed at reducing persistent absence.
  • Support the school in maintaining high standards of attendance and student engagement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for engaging with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong time management and organisational abilities.
  • Proficiency in standard ICT packages, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Demonstrated resilience and the ability to work effectively in challenging situations.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • A satisfactory DBS check.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a school environment or in a role related to attendance management.
  • Familiarity with attendance management systems such as CMIS or SIMS.
  • Experience in developing and implementing attendance improvement strategies.
