The Opportunity:

As a Biology Lecturer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality education across a range of science programmes. You will inspire learners of all abilities, manage courses, and contribute to curriculum development. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, inclusive teaching across A Level Biology, BTEC Science, T Level Laboratory Science, and Access to HE Diploma courses.
  • Take on course management responsibilities and contribute to the quality and consistency of the learner experience.
  • Monitor and track learner progress, maintaining accurate records and supporting learners to achieve their full potential.
  • Participate in curriculum planning and development, ensuring alignment with college and awarding body requirements.
  • Provide pastoral support as a personal tutor, monitoring attendance and supporting learners’ wider progress and wellbeing.
  • Support internal and external verification processes and contribute to the department's quality assurance.
  • Participate in open days, marketing events, and other activities to promote the school and its programmes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related subject.
  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent).
  • Proven teaching experience across science programmes.
  • Experience teaching learners of different ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Strong classroom management and administrative skills.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to contribute to the development of ILT strategies.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding.

Preferred

  • A Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related subject.
  • Experience in Key Skills or functional skills delivery.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Internal Verification (IV) experience or qualification.
  • Vocational or industry experience in biology or biosciences.
