The Opportunity:

As a Sports Lecturer, you will inspire and teach learners of all ages and abilities, delivering high-quality sessions and contributing to curriculum development. This role offers variety, professional growth, and the chance to make a real impact in the lives of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive sessions aligned with departmental and awarding body expectations.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, including schemes of learning, lesson plans, and assessments.
  • Track and monitor learner progress, maintaining accurate records and supporting student success.
  • Act as a personal tutor, providing guidance and support to students.
  • Participate in internal quality assurance processes, including teaching observation and appraisal.
  • Build links with employers, schools, and the local community.
  • Support recruitment and open events, as well as student enrichment activities.
  • Take on leadership responsibilities where appropriate, contributing to departmental development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A degree or equivalent vocational qualification in Physical Education, Sports, or a related subject.
  • Commitment to achieving a PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent teaching qualification within three years.
  • Strong experience working with young people in a position of responsibility.
  • Experience teaching BTEC and YMCA qualifications across a range of student groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide pastoral guidance and support to students.
  • Commitment to widening participation and equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • Personal resilience and integrity, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including open events and community engagement.

Preferred

  • An assessor qualification (e.g., CAVA or equivalent).
  • A Quality Assurance qualification (e.g., A1 or equivalent).
  • Experience as an assessor and moderator across a range of sports qualifications.
  • Experience in subject or course leadership.
