The Opportunity:

As a Casual Caretaker, you will play a vital role in maintaining the school environment, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and functionality. This is a dynamic and impactful role that supports the daily operations and well-being of students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain security and safety by managing routine opening/closing, alarm testing, and emergency responses.
  • Carry out general repairs, including basic plumbing, carpentry, and minor electrical tasks.
  • Ensure grounds, playgrounds, and allotments are clean, safe, and welcoming.
  • Support school lettings and extra-curricular activities by liaising with external users and contractors.
  • Operate heating and boiler systems to maintain comfortable and safe conditions.
  • Monitor cleaning standards and manage deliveries and supplies effectively.
  • Respond to emergency situations and resolve urgent maintenance issues independently.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Practical DIY skills in plumbing, joinery, basic electrical, and furniture repair.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including COSHH, moving and handling, and hygiene.
  • Ability to operate cleaning and small machinery safely.
  • Strong time management, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar caretaker or maintenance role.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple sites within the federation.
  • Experience with school environments or education settings.
