As a Class Teacher (SEN), you will play a vital role in delivering education tailored to the individual needs of students with special educational needs. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, individualized teaching to students with special educational needs, particularly those with ASD.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to ensure a consistent and effective approach to student learning.
  • Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) that reflect the unique needs and goals of each student.
  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and other professionals to support student progress and well-being.
  • Manage classroom environments that are inclusive, safe, and conducive to learning.
  • Stay up to date with best practices in special education and apply them in daily teaching.
  • Support the professional development of teaching assistants and other members of the team.
  • Maintain accurate records and report on student progress regularly.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with valid QTS.
  • Proven experience working in a special school environment, particularly with students with ASD.
  • Significant experience working with children and young people with complex learning needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of teaching assistants.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality requirements.

Preferred

  • Experience with a range of communication methods to support students with diverse needs.
  • Familiarity with the unique processes and challenges in Birmingham.
  • Knowledge of special educational needs legislation and best practice.
