The Opportunity:

As a Commis Chef, you will play a vital role in the smooth operation of the school’s kitchen. You will assist with food preparation, ensure quality food is received and stored, and produce meals that meet the school’s high standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and production of meals according to designated recipes and school standards.
  • Ensure the quality, storage, and receipt of all food items in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with the catering team to maintain a professional and harmonious working environment.
  • Operate within tight timescales and support the kitchen during busy periods.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen workspace at all times.
  • Support the Chef De Partie and Junior Sous Chefs in daily kitchen operations.
  • Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards at all times.
  • Be flexible and available to support the school’s schedule, including INSET days.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in a kitchen environment, preferably within a school or catering setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and within a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic culinary skills and ability to follow recipes accurately.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Experience with meal planning and preparation for large groups.
  • Flexibility to work term time and on varying schedules.
  • Commitment to professional development and ongoing training.
