The Opportunity:

As the Head of Social Sciences, you will lead and manage the department, delivering high-quality teaching and learning in Sociology, Psychology, and Health and Social Care. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Social Sciences Department, ensuring alignment with school priorities and values.
  • Teach Sociology, Psychology, and Health and Social Care to Key Stages 4 and 5 as required.
  • Contribute to the development and review of Schemes of Work and teaching resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing feedback to students and parents.
  • Coordinate internal and external examinations, including preparation for GCSE and GCE.
  • Oversee staff development, including performance management, INSET, and CPDL.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and teaching spaces effectively.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive departmental culture, aligned with the school’s behaviour and values.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant experience in Social Sciences.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school department.
  • Strong knowledge of Sociology, Psychology, and Health and Social Care curricula.
  • Ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons and resources.
  • Experience in managing and developing staff, including performance management.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum leadership and school improvement.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies and online learning platforms.
  • Experience in managing departmental budgets and resources.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
