The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Head of Music to lead and inspire a dynamic department that delivers a broad and diverse curriculum across all key stages. This role offers the opportunity to shape a successful department and make a meaningful impact on student achievement and engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Music department, ensuring a high-quality curriculum and teaching standards.
  • Deliver excellent student outcomes at both GCSE and A Level through innovative and inspirational teaching.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student engagement and achievement across all ability ranges.
  • Support and mentor a team of dedicated and experienced music teachers.
  • Promote the school’s ethos of kindness, inclusion, respect, and excellence within the department.
  • Ensure the department maintains strong links with the local community and wider music industry.
  • Monitor and report on departmental performance, contributing to school-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support cross-curricular learning and enrichment opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong belief in comprehensive education.
  • Proven experience teaching Music at GCSE and A Level.
  • Experience teaching a full age and ability range.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent student outcomes and fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Ability to contribute positively to the school’s distinctive ethos.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team.
  • Experience with curriculum innovation and development.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or similar.
  • Experience in staff development and training.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
