The Opportunity:

As a Cover Supervisor, you will ensure the smooth delivery of lessons in the absence of teaching staff, maintaining a structured and purposeful learning environment. You will support the school’s mission by upholding high standards of behaviour and learning, while contributing to the overall success of the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality learning experiences aligned with the school’s teaching principles and ethos.
  • Ensure all set work is completed to a high standard, maintaining a structured and purposeful learning environment.
  • Apply effective behaviour management strategies in line with whole-school policies.
  • Supervise set work and respond to student questions promptly.
  • Collect and pass on completed work to the relevant teacher.
  • Create a clear, orderly environment that supports effective learning during cover lessons.
  • Clearly communicate learning objectives at the start and encourage reflection at the end of each lesson.
  • Support students in accessing learning opportunities and ensure equality of access.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on student engagement and performance.
  • Report on student behaviour and any issues using the school’s referral procedures.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, break/lunch duties, and in-class learning support when not supervising.
  • Support the invigilation of examinations and testing as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in a school or educational setting, ideally with supervisory or teaching responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and classroom routines.
  • Ability to deliver learning activities in the absence of the teacher.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to the school’s values and ethos.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a Cover Supervisor or teaching assistant role.
  • Experience in invigilating examinations or testing.
  • Familiarity with the school’s teaching and learning principles.
  • Experience in supporting students with diverse needs.
