The Opportunity:

As a Curriculum Leader of Science, you will take the lead in shaping the science curriculum, driving improvements in student achievement, and supporting staff development. This is a pivotal role in a dynamic and ambitious department that values innovation, collaboration, and high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the development and implementation of the science curriculum.
  • Drive strategies to raise student achievement and attainment across all year groups.
  • Coordinate and support assessment and reporting systems to monitor student progress.
  • Lead and manage staff development within the science department.
  • Support interventions for underachieving students and contribute to learning walks and work reviews.
  • Assist with staff coaching and professional development initiatives.
  • Deputise for the Curriculum Leader when required, ensuring continuity and effective leadership.
  • Maintain a teaching commitment and contribute to the delivery of science lessons.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in curriculum leadership within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in science, with a commitment to raising student attainment.
  • Experience in leading and managing a department, including staff development and performance management.
  • Ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate the science curriculum effectively.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading curriculum development and innovation.
  • Familiarity with assessment systems and data analysis to support teaching and learning.
  • Experience in supporting staff coaching and professional development.
  • Background in working with underachieving student groups and delivering targeted interventions.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to school-wide initiatives and projects.
