Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a high-quality science curriculum aligned with national standards and the school’s strategic goals.
  • Lead and support science staff through professional development, mentoring, and collaborative planning.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, using data to inform teaching strategies and curriculum improvements.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the science department.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure alignment with school-wide priorities and initiatives.
  • Promote student engagement and achievement through effective teaching and learning practices.
  • Ensure the science department maintains high standards of teaching and learning, with a focus on inclusivity and equity.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate cross-curricular themes and enhance student learning experiences.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within education, preferably in science.
  • Strong subject knowledge in science, with the ability to lead curriculum development.
  • Experience in driving academic improvement and leading teams of teachers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in a multi-academy trust or similar educational setting.
  • Knowledge of current science education research and best practices.
  • Experience in developing and delivering professional development programs for teachers.
  • Familiarity with assessment and data analysis tools to support curriculum evaluation.
