The Opportunity:

As Deputy Head of English, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic direction and leadership of the English department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to influence curriculum development and student outcomes across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Support the Head of School in developing and implementing school-wide academic strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, providing targeted support to staff to improve outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver professional development opportunities for English teachers.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of English qualifications at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, respect, and high expectations within the department.
  • Represent the English department at school and trust level meetings.
  • Work closely with other subject leaders to ensure a cohesive and effective teaching and learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department.
  • Proven track record in teaching English at all key stages.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
  • Leadership experience in a large school or trust setting.
  • Experience in driving improvement and raising achievement in English.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends and policy developments.
