The Opportunity:

As Deputy Headteacher (Academic), you will play a key role in driving academic excellence and ensuring pupils achieve their full potential. This is a leadership position that offers the opportunity to influence teaching and learning across the school and support the development of staff and students alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the academic vision of the school in partnership with the Head of the Junior School and Senior School Deputy Head (Academic).
  • Support Subject Leads in curriculum design, assessment, and pupil progress, ensuring a consistent and high-quality learning experience.
  • Coordinate intervention and enrichment programs for SEND, More Able, and EAL students.
  • Monitor and analyze pupil progress data to inform teaching strategies and improve outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, reflection, and continuous improvement among staff.
  • Ensure a smooth transition for pupils from Year 6 to Year 7.
  • Promote and maintain high academic standards across all subjects.
  • Work closely with the Senior Team to align academic strategies with the school’s overall vision.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior academic leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, assessment, and pupil progress.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support Subject Leads effectively.
  • Experience in managing academic transitions, particularly between Year 6 and Year 7.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in a girls’ school or similar educational environment.
  • Familiarity with Unitarian values and inclusive education practices.
  • Experience in leading professional development and staff training initiatives.
  • Strong track record in improving academic outcomes and student achievement.
  • Passion for teaching and learning, with a focus on student-centered approaches.
