The Opportunity:
As Deputy Headteacher (Academic), you will play a key role in shaping the academic direction of a large, diverse school. You will lead curriculum development, teaching, learning, and standards across the whole school, including the sixth form, while supporting the Headteacher in driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership of the curriculum and quality of education across the school
- Lead whole-school improvement priorities through quality assurance and self-evaluation
- Ensure high standards of teaching and learning, informed by research
- Oversee curriculum design, timetabling, and academic provision for all learners
- Lead and develop senior and middle leaders to drive improvement
- Take a strategic lead on professional development and staff wellbeing
- Play a central role in safeguarding, inclusion, SEND, and EAL provision
- Deputise for the Headteacher as required
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a good honours degree
- Proven experience of leading teaching, learning, and curriculum development at senior level
- Strong track record in raising standards and improving outcomes
- Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills
- Experience in timetabling and resource deployment
- Commitment to inclusive, values-led education
- NPQH (or willingness to undertake it)
Preferred
- Experience in school leadership and management
- Experience with professional development and leadership training
- Experience with safeguarding and inclusion strategies
- Experience in sixth form leadership
