The Opportunity:

As Deputy Headteacher (Academic), you will play a key role in shaping the academic direction of a large, diverse school. You will lead curriculum development, teaching, learning, and standards across the whole school, including the sixth form, while supporting the Headteacher in driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership of the curriculum and quality of education across the school
  • Lead whole-school improvement priorities through quality assurance and self-evaluation
  • Ensure high standards of teaching and learning, informed by research
  • Oversee curriculum design, timetabling, and academic provision for all learners
  • Lead and develop senior and middle leaders to drive improvement
  • Take a strategic lead on professional development and staff wellbeing
  • Play a central role in safeguarding, inclusion, SEND, and EAL provision
  • Deputise for the Headteacher as required

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a good honours degree
  • Proven experience of leading teaching, learning, and curriculum development at senior level
  • Strong track record in raising standards and improving outcomes
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience in timetabling and resource deployment
  • Commitment to inclusive, values-led education
  • NPQH (or willingness to undertake it)

Preferred

  • Experience in school leadership and management
  • Experience with professional development and leadership training
  • Experience with safeguarding and inclusion strategies
  • Experience in sixth form leadership
