The Opportunity:
As a Deputy SENCO, you will play a key role in supporting the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of SEND provision across the school. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with special educational needs and disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the strategic development and implementation of the school’s SEND policy and provision
- Maintain and contribute to an accurate SEND register and provision map
- Advise and support colleagues on effective teaching strategies and the graduated approach to SEND support
- Lead and evaluate intervention programmes to improve outcomes for students with SEND
- Analyse data to monitor progress and inform provision planning
- Work closely with external agencies, parents/carers, and the local authority to support student needs
- Support Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes and reviews
- Promote inclusive practice and equal opportunities across the school
- Support the line management and development of teaching assistants
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher (QTS) with experience of delivering high-quality, inclusive classroom practice
- Strong subject teaching experience in Art, Maths, Geography, Design Technology/Food or IT
- Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its practical application in schools
- Ability to identify, plan, deliver and evaluate interventions, maintaining accurate and effective records
- Commitment to inclusive practice and securing positive outcomes for students with SEN or disabilities
- Ability to analyse data and use it to inform provision and drive progress
- Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive and supportive team culture
Preferred
- Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language
- Experience in an urban educational setting
- Experience with Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes
- Experience in staff training and CPD delivery
