The Opportunity:
As a Deputy SENCO, you will play a key role in shaping inclusive education and supporting students with additional needs. This is a leadership position that offers the chance to influence teaching and learning practices across the school and to make a meaningful impact on student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Learning Support department.
- Develop and implement effective interventions to support students with a range of additional needs.
- Work closely with the SENDCo and wider staff to embed inclusive classroom practices.
- Ensure that high-quality support is provided in line with the school’s commitment to inclusion and high expectations.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop strategies that promote academic and social success for all students.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support programs and interventions.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on inclusive teaching practices.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to student support and progress.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a SENCO or similar role within a school setting.
- Strong knowledge of special educational needs and inclusive education practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
- Experience in developing and delivering support strategies for students with additional needs.
Preferred
- Experience in working with a range of additional needs, including autism, dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Familiarity with the SEN Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
- Experience in leading training sessions for teaching staff.
- Demonstrable success in improving student outcomes through targeted support and intervention.
