The Opportunity:
As a Deputy SENDCo, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all students with special educational needs and disabilities receive the support they need to succeed. You will work closely with the SENDCo and senior leadership to deliver high-quality inclusive practices across the school, making a meaningful impact on student outcomes and school improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the day-to-day organisation of SEND provision, ensuring consistent and effective implementation across departments.
- Work with teachers to develop and implement adaptive teaching strategies that improve classroom practice for students with SEND.
- Contribute to the training and development of teaching assistants to ensure high expectations and effective support for students.
- Collaborate with pastoral teams, subject leaders, families, and external agencies to provide coordinated support for students.
- Promote a culture of inclusion and challenge, ensuring every student is known, supported, and encouraged to achieve their potential.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure that systems and processes are robust and aligned with the school’s commitment to inclusion and high expectations.
- Support the SENDCo in delivering strategic and operational aspects of the school’s SEND provision.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience of working with students with special educational needs and disabilities.
- Strong understanding of inclusive classroom practice and strategies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and external agencies.
- Commitment to high expectations and improving outcomes for vulnerable students.
Preferred
- Experience in a SENDCo or similar role.
- Knowledge of the National Award for SEN Coordination.
- Experience in supporting staff development and training.
- Experience in developing and managing systems and processes for SEND provision.
