The Opportunity:

As a Design and Technology Technician, you will support the delivery of high-quality practical lessons and projects across Key Stages 3 and 4. Your role will be essential in maintaining and operating specialist equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment for students and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, organise and manage resources and equipment for Design and Technology lessons and projects.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of specialist tools and technologies including 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machinery.
  • Support CAD/CAM manufacturing processes by setting up, operating and maintaining CNC machinery.
  • Assist with digital-to-manufacture workflows, including CAD file preparation and CAM toolpaths.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation in all workshop activities.
  • Maintain tools and machinery, monitor stock levels and order materials as required.
  • Provide hands-on technical support, construct teaching aids and carry out minor repairs.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff and pupils to enhance the learning experience.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Degree level (or equivalent) education in Design Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in a practical, technical, workshop or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of workshop equipment and tools such as laser cutters, CNC machines, lathes, pillar drills, welding equipment and 3D printers.
  • Basic understanding of COSHH and current Health and Safety requirements within Design and Technology.
  • Ability to provide hands-on technical support and carry out minor repairs.

Preferred

  • Experience with CAD/CAM manufacturing and CNC machinery.
  • Training in digital-to-manufacture workflows and CAM toolpaths.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
