The Opportunity:

As a Staff Counsellor Volunteer, you will provide essential emotional support to staff in a safe and confidential environment. This role is vital in promoting mental wellbeing and creating a supportive workplace culture. Your work will help staff navigate personal and professional challenges with empathy and care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide confidential emotional support to staff in a warm and accepting environment.
  • Offer reflective and non-judgmental listening to help staff explore difficult feelings and life events.
  • Apply person-centred principles of empathy, congruency, and unconditional positive regard in all interactions.
  • Work collaboratively with the school to ensure a supportive and compassionate workplace.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all aspects of the role.
  • Support staff in managing stress, anxiety, and other emotional concerns.
  • Reflect on and develop personal practice through ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to the school’s commitment to staff wellbeing and mental health.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant qualifications in counselling or a related field.
  • Experience in providing emotional support and counselling services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work confidentially and ethically.
  • Commitment to the principles of person-centred counselling.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of the UK National Curriculum and educational systems.
  • Experience with staff wellbeing and mental health support.
  • Flexibility and availability to meet the needs of the school community.
